Am fost ieri la Târgovişte la o sesiune de training cu viitori voluntari Peace Corps în România. E ceva ce fac deja de 3 ani cu mare plăcere pentru că întorc un dar: în şcoala generală, profesoarele mele de conversaţie în limba engleză, Miss Terry şi Miss Rose, au fost voluntare Peace Corps.
Ieri i-am rugat pe voluntari să-mi spună o curiozitate pe care o au în legătură cu tinerii din România şi un lucru pe care-l ştiu deja despre ei. Am fost uluit de acurateţea cu care au descris problemele şi provocările tinerilor din România, ca şi cum i-ar fi cercetat de ani buni de zile cu instrumentele specialiştilor. Cu ocazia asta, mi-am readus aminte cât de utilă şi necesară e perespectiva celuilalt, cât de fidel şi de dezarmant de simplu te redau ochii celorlalţi.
Azi am dat, la recomandarea lui Cristi Lupşa, peste un articol din The Guardian, care vorbeşte despre o realitate căruia eu cred că românii încă nu i-au perceput nici dimensiunea, nici semnificaţia: copiii străzii.

We sit with another former occupant of the hole, Adrian, who is off to work in Cyprus the next day. “I’ve had to do it all myself, with Laurentiu,” he says. “The NGOs and charities came and went, we kept them in a job for a while, then went out of fashion. People soon forgot about the poor Romanian street children and moved on to other things – but for a while, we must have made a lot of money for a lot of people. But we ended up alone again, and decided, as a community living down the hole, that if the system doesn’t educate us, we have to educate ourselves.”

Am cunoscut si eu un asfel de voluntar din State. La fel cum ziceai, dupa o foarte scurta perioada a fost capabil sa-mi raspunda extarordinar de precis la o gramada de chestii si sa-si faca o gramada de impresii din care cu marea majoritate a trebuit sa ma impac pana la urma. Dar revenind cu picioarele pe pamant, asa sunt invatati. Sa intrebe, sa se intereseze sa fie in stare sa faca un profil si daca il fac din 20 de surse.
